Ticino Corporate & Capital Tax — Forms & Deadlines
What companies need to file for the Canton of Ticino’s corporate profit tax and capital tax: who is required to file, how to use eTax PG (mandatory electronic filing), key documents, ordinary filing deadlines, extensions, assessments, payments, interest, and tax clearance in practice.
Who Must File
- Resident companies with statutory seat or effective place of management in the Canton of Ticino must file a corporate profit tax and capital tax return (dichiarazione d’imposta – persone giuridiche) for each tax year.
- Nonresident entities with a taxable nexus in Ticino (e.g., a permanent establishment or Ticino-situs real estate) generally file a limited Ticino return covering their local taxable base.
- All legal forms treated as “juristic persons” (e.g. SA/AG, Sagl/GmbH, cooperatives, certain foundations and associations) generally file even in loss years or where only minimum capital tax is due.
- Electronic filing is mandatory. Ticino’s corporate returns are compiled and submitted electronically (see “eTax PG” below).
Key Forms & Documents (Ticino Corporate & Capital Tax)
| Item | Purpose | Typical contents |
|---|---|---|
| Corporate tax return (persons giuridiche) | Main filing for Ticino corporate profit tax and capital tax, prepared and submitted via eTax PG. Ticino uses different modules depending on the type of legal entity and DFT applicability. | Identifying data; tax period; reconciliation from accounting profit to taxable profit; loss carryforwards; capital tax base; participation relief (if relevant); intercantonal allocation (if relevant). |
| eTax PG software (official) | Free cantonal software used to compile modules and attachments and to transmit the return electronically. | Automated calculations/roll-forwards, attachments workflow, electronic transmission, and built-in extension request function. |
| Financial statements | Basis for assessment; must reconcile to the return. | Signed annual report, statutory balance sheet, income statement, notes, appropriation of profits, audit report (if applicable), prior-year comparatives. |
| Tax reconciliation & schedules | Explains adjustments between statutory accounts and taxable result and documents the capital tax base. | Add-backs and deductions; depreciation schedules; provisions; hidden equity analysis; participation relief calculations; allocation schedules. |
| Group & related-party documentation | Supports transfer pricing, interest conditions and intra-group services. | Group structure chart; intercompany agreements; TP documentation; loans/guarantees; rulings (if any). |
| Extension request (proroga) via eTax PG | Requests additional time to file beyond the ordinary deadline (submitted electronically). | Tax period; company reference details; requested filing date; reason(s) for extension. |
| Payments & account extracts | Evidence of advance payments and final settlement to match assessments. | Advance tax invoices/instalments; payment confirmations; reconciliation of assessed tax with instalments; interest/refund statements. |
Ticino indicates that corporate tax returns and attachments are not provided as “downloadable” paper forms because legal entities must compile and send the return electronically, using the official eTax PG application (or other certified software with the required barcode). Also, the return (main module) must be transmitted online; mailing only attachments does not count as filing.
Deadlines & Extensions
Standard timing
In Ticino, the controlling due date is the deadline stated in the filing letter received with the credentials for electronic submission. In practice, the ordinary corporate filing deadline is commonly set around 30 June for companies (subject to the filing letter and the specific tax period).
If you have not received credentials but believe you have a Ticino tax nexus, contact the corporate tax office to clarify registration and your filing deadline.
Extensions (proroga)
If you cannot meet the deadline stated in the letter, Ticino requires that extension requests be submitted using the “Richiedi proroga” function inside eTax PG. Requests made outside the indicated process may not be considered.
Ticino’s published extension guidance for legal entities currently indicates that the additional term granted is fixed at 31 January 2026 (for the relevant current cycle stated on the cantonal page).
Reminder: an extension to file does not automatically extend the time to pay; interest can accrue on unpaid balances even where filing time is extended.
Assessment, Payment & Interest
- Assessment. After processing, the Ticino tax administration issues an assessment covering cantonal and communal components, including capital tax.
- Advance payments. Ticino typically issues advance invoices/instalments based on prior years or estimates; these are credited against the final assessment.
- Payment mechanics. Pay using the references indicated on invoices/assessments (e-banking, QR-bill, etc.) so the payment is allocated to the correct tax period.
- Interest & penalties. Interest is normally charged on late payments; penalties may apply for late filing or incomplete disclosure. If liquidity is tight, request an instalment plan proactively.
- Objections/appeals. The assessment letter specifies objection deadlines and procedure; objections should be filed in writing with supporting evidence.
Tax Clearance & Commercial Register (Corporate Changes)
- Corporate events such as dissolution, liquidation, mergers, de-mergers, or seat migrations often require tax coordination/clearance before commercial register steps are completed.
- For liquidations, the tax office typically assesses taxes up to the liquidation date and may request interim/final returns; distributions can trigger additional income or withholding tax consequences.
- In seat relocation cases (to/from Ticino), coordinate tax opening/closing balances and allocate hidden reserves and equity between cantons.
- For restructurings under Swiss tax neutrality rules, advance tax rulings are frequently used to secure cantonal and federal treatment.

FAQs
What is the filing deadline for companies in Ticino?
The controlling deadline is the date stated in the filing letter received with the credentials for electronic submission. In practice, the ordinary deadline is commonly set around 30 June for companies, but you should follow the filing letter for your entity and period.
Can I file the corporate tax return electronically in Ticino?
Yes — and for legal entities it is mandatory. Ticino requires corporate tax returns and attachments to be compiled and transmitted electronically using eTax PG (or other certified software with the required barcode).
How do I request an extension (proroga) in Ticino?
Ticino requires extension requests to be submitted via the eTax PG function “Richiedi proroga”. The canton’s published guidance indicates an additional term fixed at 31 January 2026 for the current cycle noted on the cantonal page.
Can I extend time to pay as well as to file?
An extension to file does not automatically extend the time to pay. If you expect late payment or need instalments, contact the tax office proactively. Interest may accrue on outstanding balances regardless of filing extensions.
Do small or loss-making companies still have to file?
Yes. Juristic persons with a Ticino tax nexus generally must file a corporate tax return even in loss years or where only minimum capital tax is due. Filing documents the position and preserves loss carryforwards where applicable.
