Valais Corporate & Capital Tax Calculator (Approximate)

Quick, approximate modelling of Valais (Wallis) company tax: combine cantonal profit tax (with cantonal indexation), communal profit tax (with commune multiplier), capital tax and Swiss federal corporate income tax on a given level of taxable profit and equity. Designed for educational planning — not as an official Valais tax tool.

This calculator is provided for illustrative purposes only and does not replace the official Valais enterprise tax calculator or a binding tax ruling. Swiss business tax engagements are delivered by Sesch TaxRep GmbH, Buchs SG (Switzerland).

Valais Tax Calculator (Approximate)

This calculator assumes a standard Valais capital company (no patent box, R&D super-deduction, notional interest deduction, special holding status history, restructuring effects, etc.). Valais also has minimum tax rules (not modelled here).

Results (Illustrative)

Cantonal profit tax (incl. cantonal indexation)
Communal profit tax (incl. commune multiplier)
Capital tax (cantonal + communal)
Federal corporate income tax
Total tax (all levels)
Effective rate on profit

Figures are rounded and for illustration only. Minimum tax, detailed commune rules, reduced capital-tax base (e.g., participations/patents/group loans), and intercantonal allocation are not modelled.

Assumptions & Methodology

ParameterValue usedComment
Cantonal profit tax (statutory brackets) 2.25% up to CHF 250,000
5.20% above CHF 250,000
Applied by tranche, then multiplied by the cantonal indexation for the selected year.
Communal profit tax (statutory brackets) 2.75% up to CHF 250,000
6.75% above CHF 250,000
Applied by tranche, then multiplied by an illustrative commune multiplier (select “low/typical/high”).
Cantonal indexation (Indexation cantonale) 2023: 164%  |  2024: 167%  |  2025: 173% Valais publishes indexation by tax year. This tool applies it to cantonal profit tax and cantonal capital tax.
Capital tax (statutory brackets) 1.0‰ up to CHF 500,000 equity
2.5‰ above CHF 500,000 equity
Calculated separately for (a) cantonal capital tax (with indexation, minimum CHF 200) and (b) communal capital tax (with commune multiplier, no CHF 200 minimum in this model).
Federal corporate income tax ~7.83% of profit before tax Derived from 8.5% on profit after tax (tax deductibility). Federal capital tax is not levied.
Special regimes / minimum tax Not modelled Minimum tax on gross receipts (and other special items) can change outcomes materially in some cases.

This is not an official Valais calculator. It is a deliberately simple approximation for planning and education. For transactions, group structuring or filings, please rely on official tools, detailed models and professional advice.

Worked Example

Assume a standard Valais company with:

  • Taxable profit before tax: CHF 1,000,000;
  • Taxable equity: CHF 2,000,000;
  • Tax year: 2025 and “typical” commune multiplier in this tool;
  • No special regimes or loss carryforwards.

Under the calculator assumptions, very roughly:

  • Cantonal profit tax (indexed) ≈ CHF 77,588
  • Communal profit tax (multiplied) ≈ CHF 106,219
  • Capital tax (cantonal + communal) ≈ CHF 7,750
  • Federal corporate income tax ≈ CHF 78,300
  • Total tax ≈ CHF 269,857
  • Effective rate on profit ≈ 27.0%

These figures are intentionally simplified and can differ materially from official computations (especially because commune multipliers and minimum tax effects can matter). Use the official Valais enterprise calculator for commune-accurate modelling.

FAQs

Why does Valais need an “indexation” and a commune multiplier?

Valais applies a cantonal indexation to the cantonal tax amount (set by year), while communes apply their own multipliers to the communal amounts. This is why two companies with the same profit can have different total burdens depending on the commune.

How accurate is this Valais calculator?

It’s intentionally simplified. It uses statutory brackets, a year-based cantonal indexation and an illustrative commune multiplier. It does not model minimum tax, commune-specific parameters, reduced capital-tax base rules, loss carryforwards, special regimes or allocations between cantons.

Can I use this output for filings or financial statements?

No. Use the official Valais enterprise calculator and/or detailed tax provision models aligned with current practice. This tool is for education and high-level planning only.

Can Sesch TaxRep help refine these numbers?

Yes. We can build a company-specific Valais tax model, assist with corporate tax returns, and support rulings and structuring. See the Valais service links above or use the general contact form on taxrep.us.
